Made Up Media Words / Acronyms Take 3!

And it's back, folks... Made Up Media Words Part Trois! All it took was a gentle reminder from a most amusing Tumblr post. Yeah, it was just that simple.

So, on this frigidly frosty Friday, the Bunnylogue presents, MUMW 3.0!
  • EOD. The use of the famed EOD is pretty epic merely due to its widespreadness. Throwing an EOD into any verbal exchange, email, im, or any other mode of communication for that matter, makes said exchange instantly rude. Those three little letters, just by sitting next to each other, have an amazing ability to morph an exchange from casual to INSTANT, URGENT, RED FLAG!!! "Yeah, hey, I need that report from you... by EOD." Just before the three dots, you felt totally okay about the report. Mmmm, not so much afterward.
  • POV. Not that POV is in any way exclusive to media, however,  I estimate its usage to be about threefold in media what it is in other, non-media-oriented places of employment. The POV, like the EOD, can be fairly used in written communication and spoken dialogue alike. Writing a POV can be a lofty project. Well, maybe not lofty but you know. Stating your POV is a bit simpler. For instance. "Rachel, please put together a 'quick' POV on that 14 page proposal in the next hour." Errrr, ok. Versus. "Rachel, what is your POV of Cate Blanchett's dress?" Loves it. You get the difference here, right? But either way, the POV makes its sneaky way into media life each and every hour of every day.
  • COB. Once upon a time, in another place and another time when I was a little baby assistant, the difference between EOD and COB was lost on me. But, what do you mean I have to have it done by COB? So that means 8p when I leave, right? Okay, cool. Fail, Rachel, fail. Little did I know back then that that 8p delivery time was 3 hours tardy to the party. The COB is less commonly used in media than, say, finance, since, well, no one really leaves at the close of the business day in the lovely land of media. But the COB still does manage to find its way into media on occasion. Perfect example: See you COB Friday... for happy hour. #priorities
  • One-sheeter. I am fairly certain that other industries make use of one-sheeters, which typically are indeed more like two-or-three-sheeters. But you get the point. The one-sheeter is a pretty epic document in media. The one-sheeter boasts a magical ability to synthesize pages and pages of slides in a deck (see original MUMW blog post) into one little Word document!! Wow, just wow right? Well, I mean, oftentimes it really isn't one sheet like I said. But just calling it that gives it a prowess far greater than calling it by any other name. "Ugh, I cannot look at this 10 slide deck. Please hang up the phone and reschedule this meeting with a simple one-sheeter instead." #epicdeckfail
  • Round Robin. THE ABSOLUTE WORST!!! Yes, please, can we all go around the 20-person conference call that we have every single week and announce our names and where we work? Please, pretty please? That sounds like soo very much fun, so much indeed that we should do it every single week! Ugh, the round robin should spread its wings and fly far, far away.
That about wraps it up for this fab Friday. Part 4 to come in coming days. Toodle-oo for now!

I die just a little bit every day

Epic classic. Thank you for sharing, Ms. DiBara! We heart media.

Volunteer Chic is the new Black

I made nod to it in my previous T's Still the Season post but I will now take a few further dedicated moments to pay respects to my recently received high-clout award. See left.

Yes, I have been honored "most likely to help build a house in volunteer chic attire" from my lovely co-workers. And, well, I suppose I do deserve this award, having constructed the floor of a house in leggings, perfect curls, and, well, a pretty cute leather jacket and my version of work boots. Ahem.

Like a true award acceptance speech, I would like to say thanks to some very important figures in my life. First, I would like to thank my clients for the simply fabulous Advil Relief in Action t-shirt. I mean, without that, the leggings would have been totally nothing. I would also like to thank my computer for allowing me to do my very important media work which resulted in me going to build houses. You follow the logic, right? I would also like to thank those super, um, is adorable the word... or filthy? work goggles that I was forced to sport for a 7-hour duration throughout my floor construction Friday. Dirty goggles, you really added to my 'volunteer chic' theme.

And lastly, of course, I would like to thank Lauren, Meera, & Derrick for laughing at me but, like, while I was also laughing at me, and making my day not only volunteer chic but co-worker and client chic alike.

I could not be prouder to accept this award if I tried. Thank you so much. #reliefinaction #volunteerchicforlife

T'is Still the Season

The it's-no-longer-the-holidays Q1 season definitely has the annual potential to feel like a massive let down. December is glorious, rife with Starbucks and iTunes cards raining from the sky, parties every night, and a pervasive feeling in the air of nonstop fun! Starbucks cups turn red, work turns into play, and then the holidays - lazy days, family, gifts. Ah, life.  But after the sparkly New Years hats come off, buzzkill-January somberly awaits, in our Outlook calendars and in our hearts. So, after all the glitz and glitter dies down, what now?

Well, the answer is actually an easy one. While, yes, last month twas indeed the season, this month it is a whole other season... and an equally fabulous one at that. Q1 boasts the title of being official awards season! And no, I do not mean TargetCast awards, although those are quite awesome as well. It is Golden Globes-People's Choice-Critics' Choice-SAG.. and everyone's favorite, Oscars (!!) Season! Yes, folks, t'is absolutely the best season of the year. T'is the season for crazy high Sunday night network TV ratings, after-the-show cable red carpets and after parties, fashion police, celebrity, and, obviously, the best movies ever. It is any pop culture / style-ite / media lover's dream come true. And the networks who air all of this fabulousness... it's theirs too.

So here we are now, Golden Globes, People's Choice, and Critics' Choice all shallow water under the bridge. Well, maybe not that shallow but you get the gist. We watched celebs in haute couture fumble over acceptance speech words while unknowingly garnering upwards of 5.0 ratings. And now we anxiously await the golden grand finale on March 2nd. Only during Q1 awards season do we find ourselves lucky enough to have multiple actually solid movies on our to-see lists. And this is a true diamond in the rough terrain of Q1.

So let's all take a moment to stop hating on Jan, Feb and March and start loving it just a little more. T'is absolutely still the season, just a different season. But who needs iTunes cards when we have dependable Sunday night TV? And, really, who needs a red-cloaked Santa when we have glamorous red carpets instead? Cheers to awards, cheers to movies, and cheers to Q1.

Happy 2014 Bunnies

A little late but I figure better than never. Welcome back to the b-logue of all b-logues! Just a quick post-a-roo to send y'all my best wishes for a lovely, fruitful and real time the next 12 months. Not, you know, that I ascribe to the infamous "resolutions make me better" belief. But anyway, happy 2014, happy Friday, happy weekend and MLK Day, and keep on rockin'.

Too da loo, baby bunnies! Be back soon!
